‘Villa Sonnewende’ is located on a private country estate in the village of Overveen only 20 km from Amsterdam city centre and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The villa was built in 1903, renovated in 1913 and 1921/1922. It has a surface of 800 m2 and a beautiful garden (with a land size of 3.800 m2). This municipal monument has remained its character and impressive appearance by the original style characteristics. On the ground floor, there are various rooms with wooden and granite floors and beautiful stained glass skylights. In the central hall, you will find a beautiful stained glass ceiling. You will find more stained glass in the unique conservatory. Next to an impressive wooden carved staircase, there is an elevator to reach the 1st and 2nd floor.
The villa features an independent penthouse that has a layout of 250 m2 and is accessible by private stairs and elevator. The large living room features a charming fireplace and an open plan kitchen. The penthouse has a beautiful wooden floor and a wooden ceiling. This creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. There are three bedrooms, one master bedroom with walk-in closet. There are two luxurious bathrooms with marble floors. Both feature a bath and shower. On the south side, there is a balcony that gives a lovely view over the beautiful garden.
The villa can evidently be used as a single country house. It offers multiple opportunities to fit the villa to your needs. There is a:
Permit to change the lay-out and functions of the house.
Permit to split the object into three different units. The owner can live in one part of the villa and lease out the other parts.
Permit to use part of the villa as an office.
Permit to build additional garages to make this more attractive.
Opportunity to start a Bed & Breakfast.
The villa is designed by the Amsterdam architects Schill and Haverkamp in 1903 and rebuilt in 1913 by Van Rossem and Vuyk. The current appearance is mainly determined by the transformation of 1921 by S. van Bommel. The asymmetrical design has been transformed into a strictly symmetrical designed country house, according to traditional principles. This is expressed in the greyish white plaster layer and the heavy loggia with linked, square columns. In the rear façade, the older layout (from 1913) is still recognizable in the two extensions, the terrace in between and the window openings. The villa is of architectural-historical importance because of the special construction history.
Villa Sonnewende is located, west of Amsterdam, in the beautiful village of Overveen. This area is one of the most attractive and chic residential areas in the Netherlands. Overveen is a small but pleasant community of about 4000 inhabitants, it is part of the municipality of Bloemendaal. Next to the quality of the natural environment, there is also a pleasant social environment and community feeling. Since most inhabitants master the English language it will be easy to blend in the community. You will find shops, Michelin star quality restaurants, tennis and golf courts and national natural parks.
The villa is close to the seaside and dunes, near the historic city of Haarlem and only at half an hour from both Amsterdam centre and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This makes it the top choice place to live near Amsterdam. Overveen even has a train station. This allows you to easily connect to the airport but also benefit from the new direct Eurostar train connection London St Pancras-Amsterdam.
